Just got off the phone with Sue Halford (Rob's sister) a few minutes ago and she gave me the exciting news that Priest have been nominated for two Grammy awards - the legendary American music industry awards - for Best Hard Rock Performance (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.) and Best Metal Performance (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.).
The former nomination is for the track Visions from Priest's epic "rock opera" Nostradamus, the latter for the track Nostradamus also from Nostradamus.
I have to say if they win one or both of these, it's about time! And as a big fan of Nostradamus (the album, not the seer!) myself I'd certainly applaud such a win.
I'm certainly hoping that Priest will be able to put together a Nostradamus tour next year - it would be as much of an epic as their remarkable careers and hard-won success as the original 'metal gods'.
The awards will be announced in February. A win for Priest would surely be poetic justice in their 40th anniversary year!
